Bee Smoker: A Tool for Calming Bees
A bee smoker is a tool used to emit smoke to temporarily calm bees, making it easier for beekeepers to work. The smoker consists of a bellows and a combustion chamber. There are three types: bellows-operated, spring-operated, and electric.
To use the smoker, ignite smoking materials (such as burlap, wood shavings, or sawdust) in the combustion chamber. Once lit, open the hive’s inner cover and gently puff a few bursts of smoke into the hive. This will calm the bees, allowing the beekeeper to carry out various tasks safely.
